Hey everyone, I am new to the site, and I love the support you all provide for eachother! It is so nice to see I am not alone in my struggles.
I have a survey type question for anyone who can respond - I wonder how many of you have insurance that covers infertility? My insurance will cover it after I have been with the company 5 yrs (I have been there 1.5 yrs and I am 31). My husband works for an independendant garage as a mechanic, and his employer does not provide any ins. coverage. He is planning to look for a new job in a few months, and I was curious what his chances were of finding a job with insurance that covers infertility. I also wondered if anyone has private out-of pocket insurance (not thru an employer) that covers txt.
Thanks!!

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
I live in Massachusetts, where all insurance companies are required to cover not only infertility testing, but also infertility treatment. I have friends in other states struggling with the same issues, and none have the coverage we enjoy here.
I am able to do a complete cycle of IVF with an out of pocket cost of less than $200. All I pay are copays on office visits and perscription drugs.
I hope things work out for you. I also hope that more states will require insurance companies to cover infertility. I'm sure they will never do it on their own.
Our drug card also covers our fertility meds up to a $10,000 maximum lifetime limit.
The only thing our insurance has not covered is our IVF teaching class which costs us $180.
We are about to undergo our first cycle of IVF in March. We have spent $300 in co-pays on fertility testing, $500 for IVF (because we chose an out-of-network specialist), $250 for all fertility meds, and $180 for the IVF class.
P.S. I do not live in Massachusetts and BC/BS still provided me fertility coverage.
I checked out the inciid website (thankyou Char), but wasn't able to find any specific plans (i.e. insurance coverage groups) that will cover treatment. My insurance IS listed among those that "may offer infertility treatment coverage to employers"
Thanks to all of you for the info - if nothing else it satisfies my curiosity!
Anyone have out-of-pocket insurance that covers treatment? I was wondering if I should purchase supplemental coverage to save me money.
It does sound pretty harsh that I have to pay and a couple doesn't. The reason supposedly is that the couple is supposed to try on their on by the normal means for at least 6 months (at my age, must be 12 months for young couples). So, once a couple comes into infertility they are already "deemed" infertile. Since I haven't been having unprotected sex (or any sex for that matter) they say I am not considered infertile yet. The insurance doesn't cover anything for women that don't have fertility problems. So until they see I have failed 6 times I am not considered infertile and don't qualify for any coverage.
Intellectually I can understand that. But it does suck.
That is through Aetna POS. We live in PA. I did have to pick a fertility rider (premium package over basic) when we got the insurance through hubby's work. It is more expensive monthly, but worth it.

Good Luck and TONS of BabyDust!!!
Most people don't have the insurance coverage for treatment of infertility. Lots of insurance companies will pay for diagnostic work up's.
With regard to individual plans, the ones I've come across won't pay for it. Individual plans hardly pay for maternity coverage.
I live in Arizona, unfortunately no infertility benefits.
