Ectopic Pregnancy with IVF? Is this Possible?

Hi folks,

In my quest to better understand why my blasted beta numbers are so low, I ran across some intersting stuff online about ectopic pregnancy.

I read that sometimes low HCG nubmers mean that an pregnancy is ectopic, and unlike most ectopic pregnancies (where they're usually tubal) IVF ectopic incidences take place when the embryos are implanted in the wrong place in the uterus.

I'm wondering if anyone out there has ever experienced this kind of thing with IVF.

ALSO, have any of you had your REs admit that they didn't implant your embies in the right place? Do we have any recourse here if they do admit such a thing? I'm sure that in all the papers I signed during my IVF cycle, I signed away all my rights to recoup any of my money even if it was 'their bad.' Still...it sure would be nice if they'd say 'the next one is on me since I screwed up.' (Wishful thinking, I know).

Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't heard that. What I do know is that ectopic pregnancies can still happen with IVF, not because they put the embryos in the wrong place, but because the embryos don't stay where they are placed. So just like embryos migrate down the tubes to the uterus, when you implant them in the uterus, they can migrate back up the tubes and implant somewhere along there. It doesn't have anything to do with putting them in the wrong place; they just didn't want to stay there.

Thanks, Susan. That's really helpful. I heard the same thing from someone on the Resolve board. She also mentioned that folks suffering from Endo are more likely to have this happen. BUMMER!

No news yet...third beta on Friday. My POAS routine still gives me really faint positives which I know can't be good. (sigh)

I'll keep you posted.

Both times I've had ectopics my Betas weren't all that low they just acted funny by only going up in small increments. That's how they could tell it wasn't normal and suspected ectopics. Both my ectopics weren't from IVF- they were natural cycles. So now that I have no tubes they can't go there. Did they really tell you they put it in the wrong place?!?! Good luck.

    theatre and I are there already. I'm having a very berry tea with crackers, cheese and cherry tomatoes and she's having a joint with some beer and we're both on really comfy recliners on thick pile carpet. we need some help with the decor if anyone is around??

    I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
