Help! I went to the RE today for my initial bloodwork. The nurses could not draw any blood. They stuck me five times!! The one vein in my right arm is bruised and sore. The vein on my right hand backed up with blood and is huge. I think she called it hemotosis. The nurse told me to ice it and continuously apply pressure. Does anyone else have difficulties having blood drawn? Does anythig help??? I always drink lots of water before I have to have blood drawn.

Actually, they did use a butterfly needle all five times, but thanks for the advice. I guess I have terrible veins...

to drink plenty and, more importantly, keep my hands and arms as warm as possible as I have terrible veins and have problems every time they want blood.

As a nurse in oncology I deal daily with patinets that have horrible veins & I happen to be one myself. Placing a warm blanket on the arms for 10 -15 minutes can help the veins come to the surface. Using the butterflies ( I know you said they did this) and also the drinking of lots of water (also done). Leaving your arm hanging down can help some. Sometimes there are only certain people that can stick certain people. Please tell me it wasn't just one person that stuck you 5 times ~ 2 should be the limit! If one person can get you ~ see if they can be there each time. Ask if they can stick you in another place ~ hand, forearm, or even the foot. I hope it helps & good luck!

I have good veins but once they poke my veins collapse. So they told me to have themuse a butterfly needle. Hope this helps in the future

Hey ask them to warm the sight with a warming pack, for atleast 10 minutes before they draw he blood. (my mom is a nurse and I asked her advice) Hope it helps!!!!!!!!

How weird! After my lap surgery I developed a clot and and was told to apply heat to it...I'm not really sure if that helps!

I draw blood for my job, and the only thing that I can suggest is, if your hand or arm are cold, I fill a glove with warm water and put it on the site, and lower the site below you heart. Hope you have better luck the next time. I have to go for my baseline testing in the next couple of days too.

    theatre and I are there already. I'm having a very berry tea with crackers, cheese and cherry tomatoes and she's having a joint with some beer and we're both on really comfy recliners on thick pile carpet. we need some help with the decor if anyone is around??

    I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
