Hi everyone,
We've had 3 unsuccessful IUI's (using Folistem and HCG) and are categorized as "unexplained infertility." I suppose some may find comfort in there being nothing "technically wrong," but for us it's really frustrating trying to understand why the IUI's weren't successful at (and if I have to hear another person tell me to "relax and it'll just happen," I think I just might break out into a temper tantrum that would put some two year old's to shame!).
We are heading into the Doctor's office in a couple of weeks to discuss our situation, as I was told that they were uncomfortable proceeding onto a fourth IUI without speaking to us first.
I'm assuming that a lot of you have had this discussion. What can I expect him to say? Will he recommend IVF, continued IUI with different injectibles???
I know that IUI's only have a 20% success rate, is anyone aware what the IVF success rate is?
It's like we are wandering through this haze of new information. Any light that can be shed to help us out would be greatly appreciated! ;)

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
ivf is 50%
but still, there are no guarantees.
what we dont understand is that untill g-d is ready to give us a soul we will not get pregnant nor have a baby.
i know its hard and frustrating but it does take time.
i know that you cant relax but maybe just try to understand the reason it is unexplained fertility is because even tho nothing is wrong with you, you need to pray to g-d to give you children. he has his reasons and hopefully one day soon you will get what you want. btw, dont waste too much time on one thing. 3-6 iui's then go to ivf. good luck and baby dust 2 u.
I have a friend on another site who sounds very similar to you. They did medication and then they also did several IUI cycles and nothing. They were unexplained IF.
So they recently began their first IVF/ICSI cycle. You know what they found was the cause of their IF? Her eggs are resistant to the penetration of sperm. This is something they most likely would NEVER have found out without going the ICSI route (BTW ICSI is where they inject a sperm directly into the egg).
What happened is they had a TON of eggs and they put them in the dish with the sperm and only like 3 eggs fertilized. That's when they figured out there was another problem.
I hope that helps somehow!
I will be sure to discuss this possible option with my Doctor at our upcoming appointment. Thank you very much for sharing the experience of your friend!
It sure is great to talk with people who know EXACTELY what you are going through!
