Hysterectomy Support Group
A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, usually done by a gynecologist. Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial (also called supra-cervical). Although there are conservative alternatives, hysterectomy is performed for uterine fibroids, pelvic pain, pelvic relaxation, heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding, and cancer.
I also experienced cystocele and rectocele after the surgery with and ever increasing weakness of the pelvic floor muscles.
I'm glad that someone in the medical community is interested in what happens post operatively.
What is really bugging me is that I have problems emptying my bladder completely -- I think I am done, then when I stand up I think I have to go again! I am seeing my ob/gyn in a couple of weeks and I am considering surgery if it looks like it will help.
I had a hysterectomy 7 years ago (due to the lining of my womb being full of fibroids),i was left with one ovary.
cystitis is something which seems to run in our family ,but since my op ive had almost continuous bouts ,sometimes its come back as infection ,other times not.but im getting up numerous times during the night ,and i never venture too far during the day as my bladder just doesnt want to hold alot of fluids.and its the usual run ,drible ,run ,over and again.
any advice would be greatly appreciated!!(have tried the cranberry and otc meds ,passing water before and after sex etc.just wish i could get rid of this ,as its getting me down.thankyou.
My sense is that a surgeon who was very competent in this area would readily answer your questions. This would most likey be someone who is able to do reconstrutive surgery.
Also, I'd advise you to seek more information on your options. You can always decide at a later date to have this surgery, but once done, that's it.
