Hysterectomy Support Group
A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, usually done by a gynecologist. Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial (also called supra-cervical). Although there are conservative alternatives, hysterectomy is performed for uterine fibroids, pelvic pain, pelvic relaxation, heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding, and cancer.

I'm having my hysterectomy on 11/15 and I'm trying to get everything organized and ready. I'm ready to do it- got to end this pain. Yesterday, I was half way through wal-mart shopping with my kids and had pains so bad I seriously thought about leaving my full basket that I'd already spent an hour getting to go home- but I had my son push the buggy and the other son get me a drink and took my pain pills. Ready for that crap to end!
I was wondering what everyone wished they had done differently, or wished they had packed, or bought to help or done, or hadn't done, etc.- about everything- getting ready, the hospital stay, the weeks after, etc.
Thanks ahead of time!!!!! You ladies are awesome!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Just remember, when you come home don't try to be Superwoman. Rest a lot. You've earned that right. Drink lots and lots of water. And for those gas pains that come walking really helps. You can do light chores around the house, but NO VACUUMING. Listen to your body as it will tell you if you're overdoing it. And don't be afraid to ask for help.
Always keep a pillow with you to hold over your belly. Believe me, if you have to sneeze you'll be glad for this piece of advice. It wasn't given to me and I learned the HARD way when it came to sneezing.
I wish you the very best luck. I joined a wonderful online support group when I had my hysterectomy done and it's a wonderful place. Don't know if I can tell you that here, but if you want to know the name of it let me know. It's all women who have had or are going to have hysterectomies and they're all going through it together. Everyone there gives great advice, lots of hugs and there's always somebody going through what you are. It was a tremendous help to me.
So I wish you the best luck with your surgery and I hope you have a speedy recovery. And always remember, the pain will pass and you'll feel so much better. God Bless.

I hope you are getting lots of rest, and having someone else do everything. All you should worry about is sleeping, eating, and cleaning yourself once in a while.
My computer died and we had to get a new one right in the middle of all this!
I'm home for 5 days now and functioning. I don't do much of anything except take care of myself and boss everyone around, just as I planned. I'm still uncomfortable but stronger than I thought and not as exhausted as I thought I'd be- still very achy but stitches aren't burning and the gas pains weren't that bad- but I'm used to being in pain so.. I feel greatful for everything I can do and for when something stops hurting. I am definitely relaxing and going to be fine, but it will certainly take time.
