Hysterectomy Support Group
A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, usually done by a gynecologist. Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial (also called supra-cervical). Although there are conservative alternatives, hysterectomy is performed for uterine fibroids, pelvic pain, pelvic relaxation, heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding, and cancer.

im having aa partial hyst. on friday. dr. said i will be able to keep my ovaries. my left tube is ful of fluid. its really painful. dr.said it will take 4-8 weeks to recover. the only tip i know is to put pillow over stomach. im more worried about recovery than surgery. ive had 33 surgeries for my leg since 2002. i just feel like im losing something in me on a personal/mental way. does anyone understand what i mean?

Your recovery will depend on how they do it. I had a vaginal hysterectomy and I felt really good after 2 weeks and a few days. I also had ovaries ect. Cinflower had the abdomonal hysterectomy and she is just starting to feel good and she is at 4 weeks. Losing the source of your pain will be a very big relief once your all healed. Some people have issues with loosing organs and that is understandable. I had so much pain prior to surgery I had a going away party. Best wishes to you friday. The first week was pretty miserable for me so plan on no activity but bathroom visits.

Hey buttany, you're talking about me!!!LOL! I had an endometrial ablation last year and a tubal ligation and still kinda had this little fantasy in my head that all my pain I was going through was a cute little baby in my damaged uterus that they were going to miraculously save and I'd name her Sophie, SO YEAH! It gets to some of us, ha ha! So, I really had about half a year to grieve the demise of my childbearing years (my kids are 19, 13, and 9) and when I was in so much pain and had so many problems and my doc said why don't you get a hyst? For me, it was just about finding a good time and said, go ahead and take it out! I will be 4 weeks Thursday and I'm feeling pretty good. I can do almost anything in little bits, clean a little, walk a little, I just take it easy and let everyone else take over for once, and I'm so happy for the vacation from work!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
