Hypotonia Support Group
Hypotonia is a condition of abnormally low muscle tone (the amount of tension or resistance to movement in a muscle), often involving reduced muscle strength. Hypotonia is not a specific medical disorder, but a potential manifestation of many different diseases and disorders that affect motor nerve control by the brain or muscle strength.

My daughter Hollie has been at the nearly walking stage now for almost 6 months, the Hypotonia has menat that there has been a delay with most things but she has always got there in the end. Any tips for helping her to have the confidence to let go? She is fine with the walker and with support, but just doesnt want to go it alone.

They had us push our coffee table up to the couch so she could walk in between them and learn to transfer from couch to table and turn around without being nervouse....after a while we started pulling the table farther and farther away until she had to take a step to get there. Our biggest problem was getting her to turn and face the table...we put her with her back against the wall and played in front of her while she stood there... you can also use a big therapy ball...they roll..of course and so she will be forced to use her muscles to stay upright...we were told not to get her a push toy unless the handle stuck back far enough that she didnt kick anything when she walked...that was really hard to find even with her short legs so we built one...they have one similar to the one we built at IKEA its $25. but you really have to be prepared for how wide they walk...Emmas been running around the house for a while now but her feet are still pretty far apart...mostly theys say for stability...Oh, they also suggested that we not get her a push toy she had to reach up to it should come to the chest .....and never ever ever hold her had while she walks...they say that when you do this they learn to balance with there hands up and thats where they stay....they had us hold on to her shirt shoulders or get on our knees and hold her elbows...its great that Hollie is cruising though...thats a big step...congrats

I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
