I had a thyroidectomy on March 22. Started on thyroxine replacement the same day. Just had my levels checked & T3 is only 3.1(too low) & TSH is 4.8 (too high). I have gained 16 pounds over last 4 weeks, which they say I will lose when my meds are corrected. My problem is the size of my stomach. It bloated after surgery but before I gained weight & now is huge. Friends are commenting non stop. I had no belly & now I look 6 months pregnant. Just ran into a friend I hadn't seen for a long time & she asked when I was due. She was shocked & very apologetic when I said I wasn't. The extra weight is noticeable all over my body. It is my stomach that is out of preportion. Is there something about the op or thyroxine tablets that causes a very bloated stomach ? I'm sick of people's shocked comments.

I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...
