Hypothyroidism Support Group

Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Synthroid and Grapefruit

I take my Synthroid first thing in the morning and was wondering, if I have a grapefruit in the afternoon will it be okay? I thought I heard that grapefruit can affect the absorption of some medication (I thought one was Synthroid) but I'm not sure if they mean if I take it at the same time or within a few hours of each other. Anyone know of the correlation and if eating grapefruit in the afternoon should be fine?

I think as long as you wait 1 hour after taking the medicine you're safe. I eat grapefruit often and I take synthorid so if you're waiting till the afternoon I don't think there is any problems.
