Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...

I had been on synthetic t3/t4 and felt so-so.
In October, I started Armour: half a grain in the am and half a grain in the pm. I felt pretty good at first, but then felt hypo again. I increased my dose by another half in the am and that didn't work for me. So, now I take 45 in the am and 30 pm and feel, again, hypo (especially in my legs and arms). I'm so disappointed because I thought taking the natural medication would be better, but it isn't. My test results were that my t3 was within range, but my t4 was too low (out-of-range) - hence my hypo symptoms.
Any words that might help. - I do take my needed supplements.

i have constant fatigue and can barely get out of bed. Taking NP thyroid and Dr recently added Cytomel. Since I started Cytomel my appetite has increased, gained weight and feel so incredibly angry and argumentative. It has not helped with weight loss and energy as the Dr was hoping. My hair has also become very dry and I feel as if I'm experiencing premature aging. I feel and look 80...

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...
You'll get a ton of info there.
Did you experience lower T4? Also, is your t3 and t4 both within range now? Also, how long did you stay with any one dose before changing it to a new dose?
Thanks for the hopeful message.

Yes, unfortunately for the poor lady, it just wasn't enough for her. Guess she must've been one of those people not getting enough T4 no matter how she tried. Makes me wonder if she tried avoiding Soy as well as limiting raw goitrogens?

It seems that regulating the correct dose can take quite a while, but when you've cracked it, dessicated thyroid extract is far more effective than T4 alone. I'd say stick with it...
I think that my t4 is probably too low and when I increase it, my t3 becomes too high. I'll give it more time. I stayed with my first dose for about 3 months.
I might have to add a synthetic t4....but I'll try Naturethyroid (I actally have a supply of those as well).
Refer to the table on the right side of the article about the different glucose sugars.
This sure sucks for those with Corn Sugar allergy like me. I cannot tolerate High Fructose Corn Syrup. I can have fresh corn on the cob though.

Thanks you're the best for calling them. I know corn sugar is in everything. I had to eliminate because I finally found one of the triggers that sets off my RA...! :-(
