Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. It seems many people are using synthroid. Is the generic meds as good. I went to the doctor last week my TSH was 18.6. He upped my meds from 50 mcg to 75mcg a day. When I ask him if I would ever lose weight his comment was you will gain more & more is this true?
I am not heavy everywhere just mainly my stomach and face. Everyone keeps telling me my stomach is from stress. I am on another med for anxiety and stress but it makes me feel worse than ever. I have a tendency to sleep very well for a couple hours at night and then I will be awake for a couple of hours and go back to sleep. I am usually very active I hate coming into the house because as soon as I set down to watch tv I am asleep within minutes. Is all this stuff normal and will it get better?
I am very sceptical about taking meds would rather take natural things.
Is there anyone who has any recemendiations for how to lose weight with hypo? My husband is taking me on a cruise in March for our 25th anniversary and I want to lose as much as possible by then.
Any info will be greatly appreciated!!!
I can also be e-mailed at uniquets4u@yahoo.com

Hello, I know exactly what you are talking about. It seems next to impossible to lose weight sometimes. I exercise and eat right with not much success. If you find out any good TIPS let me know! We are also going on our 25th anniversary cruise in May. I sure would like to lose as much weight as I could too. Good luck!

Gain more weight from upping your dosage? Not usually, unless you up your food intake as well. Don't be upset about taking synthroid, its a replacement hormone not a med in the sense of altering things out of normal. It helps to normalize what your body has failed to produce.

Have you considered a sleep study? You could have a sleep apnea and not know it. It causes you to eat more (the body has to get its energy from somewhere)and its very dangerous to drive with it because it is the equivalent of drunk driving. Please talk to your doctor about this, k?

My endo took me off generic and put me on name brand Synthroid. She said sometimes the pharmacy will order the generic from a different company and it will be just slightly different. That slight difference could be enough to wreak havoc on your levels though. And I know when my thyroid is functioning properly, I am able to lose weight with healthy eating and exercise. When my levels are screwed up I can't lose to save my life. Good luck to you!! Let us know how things go. :)

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
