I just got a phone call from my doctor with my lab results and he said after looking at my results, he doesnt believe I am converting T4 into T3 so he is starting me out on cytomel 25 once a day only. He also said my B12 was on the lower side of normal so I need to take 1000mcg of that as well as Vitamin D. I am so hopeful that I am on the right road! I will let yall know how it is working for me.

Congrats! Hopefully this will help with your brain fog and lethargy. T3 is supposed to be a very short-lived medication. You may want to cut it into half and take it twice a day. There are no rules how you take T3 -w/or w/o food it doesn't make any difference. Hopefully you are on the road to wellness and the correct cocktail...

I'm still a little confused about how this works... If I'm only on cytomel does that mean everything else is working except the conversion of t4 into t3?? I never knew that you could take t3 by itself... If I'm wrong please correct me.

I am on both - levoxyl for T4 (137mcg) and Cytomel for T3 (37.5 just reduced). You need to speak with your doctor, but I believe you are getting the T3 to switch into the T4, but you will probably have T4 too. Let us know...

Maybe if you get your 3 converted to a 4 you won't need the 4... Maybe this is the answer to all of your awful symptoms. I don't know enough about Cytomel other than to say that it helped clear my foggy brain. Good Luck!

Thanks Stilllisting. Do you take the generic or brand of Cytomel? All they had was the generic until they can order it, but I want to start it in the morning and was just wondering if there was much of a difference.

I have the generic - made by Mylan labs. It's all they have ever given me. I may have insurance problems soon and would like to stay with generics if at all possible. You may feel a little weird at first, but then again you have been feeling a little weird for months anyway... It's a good weird! Good Luck!

They put you on Cytomel and took you off the T4? Wow. I've never heard of just using T3. Are your free T4 levels ok and the free T3 off?

Marit. Yes I stopped my synthroid and he started me on Cytomel only. This stuff confuses me and is way over my head. Hopefully this medicine will start helping me soon. I took 25 this morning and I have been feeling pretty loopy and out of it. I know it's going to take some time getting adjusted but right now I still feel pretty crappy, foggy, and dizzy.

My Endo was reluctant to give me cytomel until, 4 months after TT, TSH was coming down but not enough.

It has been so hard having severe hypo symptoms after being hyper for 30 years.

I take my Cytomel 3x per day. Because one of the problems w/T3 is that it is so short lived I don't get the major jolt and then the downward spiral. I take my dose at 2pm and the other day I didn't have it out with me and didn't take it until 3:30 and definitely noticed the interim difference. I feel better w/ it being steady.

I take Cytomel twice a day. It has helped with the severe fatigue. My hair loss has slowed a bit, but the hair is very brittle. I guess it has to grow out past the point of insult.

How long have you been on thyroid hormones?

    I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...
