I have reactive hypoglycemia as a result of gastric bypass surgery in 2009. I was never diabetic and this just started a year or so ago. It can be very frustrating because I never know what will cause an episode. It doesn't come about from not eating but rather certain foods will trigger an ovearelease of insulin and my body reacts as if I have low blood sugar. I get shaky, light-headed, disoriented, and a severe hung pit in my stomach. The only thing I've found that helps is to eat regularly, high protein, low GI foods ... The less varied my diet, the better. But it can get awfully boring. Alcohol sometimes triggers an episode as well. Does anyone else struggle with reactive hypoglycemia?
