I am new to this site and to a hyperthyroid diagnosis and am in the testing phased to see what is causing it. Anyway, I have the apparently usual symptoms of anxiety, racing heart, serious wt loss, warm body.
Until last week I also had increased bowel movements but now I seem to have more like diarrhea. I have not seen too many people report this symptom.
I have been on the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) all week, seems to only help a little. Also only plain water or very diluted gatorade or apple juice to drink. I have been using pepto bismol and that seems to help some. I took my first dosage of Atenolol (25mg) this morning.
I am wondering have any of you had diarrhea? Any suggestions for how to treat it? Does the beta blocker help that symptom at all? I am v. thin and run down and worried! I do not know if the diarrhea is a symptom of the thyroid problem or maybe just a bug, something totally unrelated. Does anybody have any experience with this one? would so much appreciate any thoughts people may have about it.
Thanks for all of your help-
Karen

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroid myself and they are still doing tests to find out why I have it.
I've been looking into the many symptoms of this syndrome and diarrhea is one of them. I've had a slight case on and off, other people probably have it worse. My main problem is mental fog, racing heart and weakness. There is an intestinal flu going around right now (i'm in NY). If you start getting nausious also you might want to ask your doctor if you have it. It might be going around your area too. It shouldn't last longer than a few days.
In either case I hope you feel better soon.
