my daughter is 4 mnt. she has spina bifida, hydrochephlas, chiari malformation and now apnea. she didnt have her shunt put in until she was 2 month, but at six weeks she stopped breathing all of the sudden and started having trouble keeping her oxygen up. she since has had a vp shunt and is on oxygen, pulsox monitor and a apnea monitor. Before the shunt she was having like 500 episodes a week where she would stop breathing and you would have to physically touch stimulate her to take a breath. since the surgery the episodes have greatly decreased but she has still had over 95 episodes since june 26th. i do not understand it. has anyone else had this problem or any ideas on why this is happening. she will have to be on the o2 and monitors untill she can go 2 months with no episodes. oh and they put her on a medication called caffinee citrate.
