Human papillomavirus is a diverse group of DNA-based viruses that infect the skin and mucous membranes of humans. More than 100 different human papillomavirus (HPV) types have been characterized. Some HPV types cause benign skin warts, or papillomas, for which the virus family is named. HPVs associated with the development of such "common warts" are transmitted...

Hi! My sister was diagnosed with HPV about two years ago. She had an abnormal pap and had a LEEP procedure done. One year later, her pap came back mildly abnormal again with lesions now also appearing on her vulva and just inside the vagina. She went for outpatient surgery to have all of those lesions removed. The biopsies on those came back as severe dysplasia which the doc described as "the next step would have been cancer". She also had the severe dysplasia on her cervix before her first procedure. The OBGYN referred her to an Oncologist after the second set of lesions were found. I am just wondering what to expect next? Does HPV continue to cause problems indefinitely or is there an end in sight? Has anyone else experienced the severity of problems that my sister has? Thanks for the info!

Ok. High risk dysplasia does not always turn in to cancer. It can, but not always. Make sure, your sister continues to go for her check ups, colpscopy's. Did she have warts with the high risk strain? She should also take vitamins. Beta-cartone is excellent for helping with the dysplasia from progressing into cancer. 3 a day I take and my dysplasia has begun to reverse. I had my warts surgically removed. The funny thing with this virus, you can have just dysplasia and no lesions(warts) and then later they can begin to pop up. If she is having sex, tell her to use a condom. My gyn/ob stressed this too...to prevent further infections, and other risks associated to HPV.

I will let her know! Thanks! I dont think she ever had warts, just pre-cancerous spots, so I don't know. she has caught it twice just before it became cancerous and had it surgically removed both times. I am just wondering if it is the HPV bringing on all of the cancer probs or if it is something unrelated to HPV...

Also...if she smokes you need to encourage her to quit immediately. Nicotine impedes apoptosis - the process where the body rids itself of damaged cells.

She does smoke, and will not quit at this time...

I too have had problems with dysplasia and even cancer. I take folic acid daily, lots of Vit B and Vit C to keep my immune system strong. LOTS of green veggies. Like Dina said smoking is a major NO NO.

its like why smoke when your on medication or whatever. its like a loose loose situation.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
