Homelessness Support Group
Homelessness refers to the condition and societal category of people who lack fixed housing, specifically a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. The definition also includes a person who has a primary nighttime residence that is in transitional housing or a person who spends most nights in a supervised public or private facility.

It seems like most states here in the U.S are seriously lacking affordable housing. I'm not sure how low-income housing works in other states, but here in PA even low-income isn't available for some. It's not just the number of units I'm referring to, but also the requirements someone must meet before qualifying. One of them is a sufficient credit rating. This makes no sense to me. If someone is poor, struggling to make ends meet and has developed a poor credit rating in the process, they are ineligible for public housing???? Quite a few places also won't accept someone who has been in trouble with the law.
Without rambling on, I guess my question is this: How much do you all feel a lack of affordable housing contributes to the homelessness problem in our country? And what can the average Joe do about it? Write letters to government officials? Is there a group/organization to join up with in this effort? I want to help, but I'm not sure where to start.
Thanks for listening and for any input you might have.

although i am not homeless now i have been homeless on two ocassions. In alberta canada rent prices are getting unreal and the average joe really has to look for a place that meets the amount they have to spend... one average person can afford to spend 1500-2000.00 a month on rent... i feel because i am disabled it is harder to get rent and sometimes the landlord are a bit prejudice and will not take disabled people.. I feel in alberta they added to the problem of homelessness as they refused to put in rent controls... what an average person can do? i don't know the solution.

In Canada, Rent Geared to Income place are only allowed to charge you 30% of what you bring in. They say that a person who makes 30,000 a year can oly afford rent that is $400.00 a month.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
