I went to my first doctors appointment today with an infectious disease doc. I was very clear with him that I wasn't sure why I was referred to him when I thought a derm. is where I needed to be . He assurred me he has about five cases of HS a year and he was familiar with it. After discussing different med options, which we both agreed were minor relief, he said it was time to discuss surgery. I assumed he meant CO2 surgery, but he corrected me and said he meant removing my sweat glands. I've not really seen any advice on this or know about it. What are the pros and cons? He specifically used the word "cure" my HS with this process...I'm a little concerned with that. He also made the comment he feels I understand this disease about as much as he does. I asked him if HS is a hormonal based disease, how does the disease present itself if the sweat glands are gone. He couldn't answer...what are the thoughts my friends?
