Hi all! I'm new to the group and want to give a little info on my experience with Ichthammol Ointment. First of all this stuff smells REALLY, REALLY bad...that being said...the outcome is SOOOO worth it!!! I heard about this stuff while researching online because I had an HS spot on my face right next to my ear that was getting bigger daily and not looking like it was ready to drain soon...this thing had been "brewing" for around 2 months/bigger and bigger...sent my husband out to the local pharmacy after calling and confirming that they had it (one tube left...what luck!!) I put it on a guaze square taped to my face at bedtime and tried not to breathe the odor too much. This spot on my face was huge, like "scaring me" huge because of its close proximity to my brain and very noticeable to others so I wanted to get it drained ASAP. The next AM when I took the guaze off, it didn't look any different and I started to bawl because I figured it was never going to go away and I would have to go see the doctor...who was on my shit list (doctors in general) because when I brought up the whole thing years ago when I didn't know what I had, one proceeded to suggest that maybe I wasn't cleaning myself well and that if I just used an antibacterial soap and was more hygenic it would magically go away...please just call me a dirty scumbag, why don't you...don't go to THAT doc anymore but others I have gone to don't know what HS is and it's like the same experience over and over again...(can we all say "Groundhog Day"??) anyway...DIDN'T want to go to the Doc...I pressed a finger around the edge of the spot and even though it didn't look like it was ready...holy crap... a fountain of stuff started squirting out of it from me touching gently, it didn't even hurt me!!! I was amazed...i sat there and worked on it for about 10 minutes and was so relieved!!!!! It didn't completely go away with that one application, so i did another one about 2 weeks later and I can honestly say that took care of that problem...I had a little dry skin around the spot but IT WENT AWAY AND DID NOT LEAVE THE USUAL PURPLE SCAR!!!! Also, that "spot" has not filled up again, so the ointment drained it ALL THE WAY!!! So, wondering if this was beginner's luck I tried it on my inner thigh/crotch area where I had a really big, juicy tender spot (actually lots of spots together - OUCH!!!) (u know the kind ...where u have to wear a bandaid every day till it bursts as a preventive measure because u know when it drains it's going to be a lot of stuff coming out and u don't want to ruin one more article of clothing!!!) This one was closer to draining than the one on my face had been but hurt and itched so bad so I was anxious to get it healing...once again i taped a guaze pad with ointment to my leg before bed...got up in AM with wound still undrained...got in shower and applied gentle pressure to outside edges and BINGO...this stuff works like a charm!!! worked on it for a while in shower and could actually see the wound going down in shape and size and the skin getting "baggy" as it was not being held taut anymore by the undrained crap inside....every now and then it would stop draining and i knew it wasn't done because i could still feel the lump under my skin so i would push and pull around the wound and nothing more would come out and then i thought to do a thing that may sound really strange but hey desperate times....I kind of plucked/pulled at the opening of wound and a big "bb" like plug of nasty stuff came out and more blood/pus started pouring out...now, i know that i have never seen this plug of stuff before and that is maybe why my spots always reoccur....i think the plug of stuff was too deep to get out when the spots drained on their own before but with this ointment...I think it made the skin tissues softer/more pliable so that the stuff was able to be brought up and out and the whole pain factor wasn't stopping me from getting to the actual core of the spot. By the way, i plucked/pulled out several "plugs" from that one spot and i'm pretty sure only one "head" of the cluster was draining, so i thought i would have to revisit that area in the future...but, no, after i got out of shower i put band-aid with tea tree oil/neosporin on spot and it is healing flat and not filling back up!!!! The color is still a little purple on the spot, but not an angry, dark purple!!! Sorry this is so long, but if you feel the way i do and have spots like i do, u will try anything that works and believe me...this stuff works!!!! I have had HS for at least 10 years and only known what it was for the last two years. I get spots around/inside my ears, under my breasts and ALL OVER my groin/buttocks area. I am a very scarred person and am scared to death that this will get worse as i think i pretty much have a handle on it now and don't really see a doc for this...i tried the AZO yeast oral supplement and that seemed to help a little, but then went on vacation and got all stressed out and got sick and body is just now getting back on track...i've done the whole changing my diet, losing weight thing and although it doesn't help my HS, it does dramatically improve my mood!!! Hope i can help someone with my post and please comment...I am so glad to know that others know what i'm talking about!!!!! Yes, I am not alone!!!! thanks and have a great day!

Hi all! This is for those of you that have or have had the same neurologist for 4 years or more. I have been with mine now since 2009. He is one of the best movement disorder secialists in the midwest. I know he is extremely busy on the lecture circuit now and in fact not taking new patients there is a huge waiting list for him. BUT.... I feel like my visits are not what they use to be. He...
I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...
