I just visited the discussion board over at Oprah, and ran across a bit of hostility to a remark I made about Pamela Anderson. I'm not sure why it came, but I'd like to make a suggestion.
If our mission is to make people aware of Hep C, then fighting and jabbing at each other will not make it happen - if anything, it guarantees that we will be ignored.
I'm not sure why this person responded the way they did, but I will say this:
I'm not an expert, and certainly don't try to be, but I do believe in thinking the best - of everyone. Pamela Anderson is not the greatest role model walking around, but one thing is for sure - she deserves as much of a chance to get a clue as anyone who finds out after many years that they need to change the way they think, act and feel about themselves.
I don't care for what the woman is doing, but I'm not about to through the first stone.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Don't apologize. Everyone is allowed to have a bad day or week (48-52 of them, even). You didn't really offend me, I was more concerned about how it would be interpreted by people who didn't understand the stress you were under.
No worries. I've got tougher skin than that, but will duck in the future! LOL
Much hugs and respect to you, dear heart
This is an exercise in political pressure - so we must act in a careful, & well thought out way, which includes not bagging anyone in the public domain - whether or not we personally approve or otherwise. I've not written in yet - will handwrite, first & think it over - we need natural style, sincerity & a certain humiulity I believe. Last week we had Oprah interviewing a woman accused of harming a child - she's bipolar (somebody see this? - it will give me an idea of how far behind we are here in Aust/.! Am thinking of following on, as there are several people here who are biobolar - any thoughts on this? - all gratefully received. JaneD.
She was a tireless fighter for many worthy of causes and for those less fortunate than herself. She was for equal access to health care.
It's a shame she got too sick so quickly. If she had have stayed healthy longer, I truly believe she would have been the outspoken public advocate we so desperately need.
She 'came out' early, saying that she had been outspoken all her life and she certainly wasn't going to hide because of public opinion about her HEPC condition.
Personally, I look to Naomi Judd as more of a role model.
Anita Roddick is another excellent choice. Her work to help children in Asia and Eastern Europe as well as her environmental activism was awesome. The organizations she founded are still carrying on her charitable work.
