Hi everyone, I am new here. I was diagnosed with left side heart failure the end of July, 2010. It started in February during a trip to visit my granddaughters. My lower legs, ankles and feet were really ballooning up. Since we where in Hawaii I kind of attributed it to the heat and humidity. But on the flight home I couldn't get my shoes on, I had to fly into Anchorage, in February wearing sandals...brrr. But on the flight my hubby and I both caught a bug...he got over it pretty fast but for me the cough just lingered, even after seeing the doc and getting a good dose of anitibiotics in me. Again I started having problems wiht the legs and feet swelling so I saw my family doc for it and he prescribed a diuretic, which exacerbated the muscle cramps I was already having, but did little to prevent the edema in my legs and feet. It reached a point where the edema was not even going down after sleeping. That scared me, alot. So I got online and looked up the symptoms I was having...300 thousand plus hits and they all came back as heart failure or kidney failure...I didn't like those odds so I called the docs office and scheduled an appt to argue with him over the need for an echocardiogram...and it was quite an arguement, one that I won; Thank God! So here I am just chillin and waiting for the day the cardiologist tells me I will be having surgery. As he put it is not a matter of it but when and both left valves will have to be replaced, one at a time, as they are not repairable.
