Ever wonder about people out there who live their lives so unhappy so unfulfilled. Poor, repressed, and without? I do, I am one of them people. I grew up poor as hell. My mom didnt work, I lived with my grandparents and had little to nothing growing up. As a result I made a point to want to make a difference with my life. I wanted to be somebody.
I went to college, graduated, was in the military and also graduated from college as an army officer. I went to work continuously climbing the corporate ladder. I travelled all over the world for the company I work for and really had a lot of connections. Then it happened. All I worked for to make steps forward blew up in my face. Why do you ask?
Well I had surgery in January of 06 for my sinuses. While recovering I started having problems. Extreme fatigue and then I went numb from my neck down to my toe. I didn't know what the hell happened to me. I went to the neurologist and within a short period of time was given the diagnosis of MS (Multiple Sclerosis). Words I had never thought much of before have come to me to haunt me and to take away all that I had worked for. I find myself stepping back each day, each week, each month financially as the prices of medication keep getting higher and my insurance keeps paying for less.
You see if you are healthy you dont realize the issues that exist in the US medical system. You would think that in this day and age that there would be all sorts of programs to help those with something as horrible as MS. Well let me tell you what, there is nothing for a working man or woman who has MS or any other horrible disease. If you want to work and can there is nothing out there to help you to keep doing so.
Please do not take me the wrong way. I know there are people who are not able to work and have to rely and live on the system that is in place today but that system is not adequate to help those who are in need. Those on disability are truly suffering in more ways than one. I feel sorry for those who have nothing more than this to live on since it is so inadequate. I myself fear having to someday become reliant on this system.
I guess what is really irking me right now is the fact that we in the US who are pouring dollars hand over fist to the IRAQ cause and we are doing nothing to help those who are in need who live in this country. I am pissed ok I am really pissed off. Our politicians have failed us.
My two cents for anyone who cares to listen. We need to get out of everybodies business and start taking care of us (US) at home. Put money into homeland security, employ american people, protect our borders, feed our children, put our homeless in homes, and take care of the sick and the elderly. If we only paid as much attention to the US people as we do the damn corporations who are filling lobbyist pockets with $$$, gifts, trips, etc to feed the politicians.
I am a proud american and gave 15 yrs to the US Army to do what I can to serve it. I believe in the land we call our home and love it here. I just dont believe our political system is doing what it should be and for that it is failing us. Remember back in the days of vietnam people left this country to canada so they didnt have to fight. Now people are running off to canada so they can afford healthcare. Funny what a shift over the last 40 yrs. I guess it is not funny at all but instead very sad.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
When will this country understand that a right to life, liberty, etc., starts with a right to adequate health care.
My husband is unemployed at 72 has medicare but his cataracts are beyond the surgery time and we cannot afford the extra that medicare does not cover. I have an ear disease that will destroy my hearing and now my balance and my ringing in my ears bother me. I am 58 years old. We cannot afford any medical help and I was turned down for disability because I did not work for 10 years. I only worked 25 years before that.
We tried the chrarity agency and they said our Social Securuty and my pension make us ineligible for medical help with SSI or Welfare, we both worked all our lives. And to see illegal aliens find healthcare for free is not good.
We were told to call up or write to doctors for a free or sliding scale fee but got nothing. What botheres us is the Social Worker would not do that for us. And when my husband visited a free eye exam the doctor told him there were no free services available. He went home sick that day. I wonder why we need social workers if they are not doing anything. Since most of the information we got has been on line. We found that free eye exam from Eye Care America a 1 time a year exam for people over 65 years old. If any of you need an eye exam and qualify check it our. eyecareamerica.com
Before diagnose with my illness I seen all kinds of Doctors and had so many test. Test came out negative and Doctors thought I was nuts. Because of barriers and denials. I lost good credit and face to lose my home soon. Taking important medication I need is difficult cause I cannot afford Insurance. The price of medication is in human. Now the American dream. Is just that. A dream
When you speak of the war and you serving your country, and now, you need health care. It is overwhelming. I am going to have to think a bit more before I reply, but now I find it necessary to just say thank you for your service to your country.
I am searching for the right words to say.
Well I keep wondering if I had better insurance in the beginning maybe I would have had a diagnosis and the Crohn's disease would not have progressed as far? And I do not know how I will live if I loose the business -- am not getting support from the physicians to get disability -- they won't even run tests or send me to specialists.
I also have two friends in their forties like me who have worked their whole lives that are about to file for bankruptcy because of unexpected medical costs.
What's the American Dream?
