Hi All, what is your experience with exercising? I was warned against exerting my heart until they were able to diagnose and start treatment (found out it is Graves, am now being treated with methimazole). I am dying to get back to the gym though, esp when I read that I just lost a bunch of muscle, not fat (darn it!) in that weight loss period! Can anyone tell me how you manage exercise during treatment, and any problems you've encountered? Thanks so much! Karen

Are you having heart palpitations? If so, I would not recommend working out until you Dr. approves it. Walking should be fine. I am experiencing heart palpitation and I was advised by my Endo not to workout.... I can walk or do yoga...

I also lost a ton of weight and have sharpei thighs,, and it has been a year since my RAI and they still will not let me work out! I have been riding a stationary bicyle here in my house,, but it gets my heart rate way up there around 140,,, It scares me,, but I have to do something! Walking is a great way to exercise, but I have too much energy and need to burn it!

Take your doctor's advice. Don't over exert your heart. Just do lite exercising. There are all types you could do. Also, I would say rest periodically during your workouts. Better safe than sorry.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
