I have had my grandchildren for about a year and a half. My daughter is into the drug scene, and the children were neglected, abused, etc. I just found out the other day that we atomatically qualify for free lunches. There is help out there, they say, but where and how. I would rather not get DHS involved. She is my daughter and would rather not see her in anymore trouble than she has already got her self into. She has at this point given me permission to adopt the children. So why add to her problems right??

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I think it is wrong that for so many that need child care that grand parents do not get the same deal as a mother does.
I do think that help is on it's way. So SO many grand parents raising the grand children and we all are working at getting someones attention. I think what I was told that 60% of grand parents are now raising the grand kids! WOW! that is a lot!
I know the struggles we face, like Christmas vacation coming up. I am working on sitting up sitters, but I really don't know anyone in the area, so I am checking out the town 15 miles from me where I do know people. That means at least 30 miles a day to drive, but I know she will be safe. There is not a normal day care in this area, if there was they would probably charge me an arm and leg anyway.
Try going on line to check things out for your state. Each State is different. Some were telling me about something that the state would send a check and then go after the parents, taking money out of there checks etc, if they didn't have a job they would still send you the check and when ever the mom and dad did get a job it would be taken out. I plan on starting this after the first of the year. Got to find out where I need to go to around here.
We're in the process of getting permanent custody over temporary, and getting child support while we're at it. Once our daughter is qualified to get custody back of her son, we will be adopting her daughter. I did NOT realize though that they go by grandchildren's income. I'll have to look into that. If that's the case, I can get the kids back on WIC. We don't qualify financially for help.
