I have temporary custody of my grandchild, we are in a raging court battle with her mother over gaining permanent custody. My granddaughter was abused over an extensive period of time and this abuse did not end until she was removed from her mother by DFPS. Since the mother was cooperative with DFPS they want to place the child back with the mother, thankfully the courts ruled against this and she remains with me until the final hearing.
We have reason to believe the mother is still abusing her during her visitations. We have contacted DFPS and the abuse has been confirmed by a doctor. Still DFPS wants to place her with her mother. Unfortunately, I can not get my attorney to take any action to stop the visitation or to modify the visitation to be supervised. The little girl doesn't like to go see Mommy and has nightmares upon her return.
Since I have been in this battle I have learned that I should have hired a "family certified" lawyer and not just a lawyer who practices family law.
Does anyone have any recommendations on a good family certified lawyer that is licensed to practice in Texas? Or any suggestions on how to get my attorney motivated and redirected to work on and close this case?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
For some reason Department of family services are willing to put a childs life in danger just to close a case!!!!!!!!!!!! Get all your ducks in a roll!!!!
I really don't think there is any GOOD Lawyers!!! I don't think it is possible to get a lawyer motivated! They are lazy to the bone!
They have A>>>>SSSS>>>>SSSS
prepare....even if you hand them the case, they still will not prepare it. We changed lawyers right in the middle of our case, she was as bad as the other one and she was suppose to be the best in the state.
That is why a GOOD therpist that is strong minded, that will not get all wisie washie on the stand is the way. Your grand daughter has to open up to him and give him details.
Has anyone appointed an AD litem yet??? Also Demand a CASA Advocate!!!!! VERY VERY Important!!!! We need more Advocates, hopefully Texas has extra, or someone that can take on one more!
Sorry I need to put this energy that I am wasting being angry into winning this custody battle.
That there is a book that you can look up a lawyer and it gives you tons of info about the lawyer, ratings etc...
Maybe interview some.
Yea that seems like most of them, every time you turn around a bill. One lawyer charged us $25 for us to drop of some papers at his office, we gave them to the person at the desk and walked out!
It was over $30 thousand for our one case.
Now that is putting the screws to people.
