I have suffered off and on 12 yrs with extremely painful gout. It started in my ankels and for a couple of years I couldn't figure what was wrong. But, when it went to my big toes I knew what it was. Saw Dr's and went through eliminating hi purine foods, but, NO HELP. I begin to notice every time I would eat a hot dog next day gout. Then I noticed sandwich meats and deli meats caused gout. Also processed meats, Ham, sausage and bacon. I started to read the lables. I noticed there are 4 different sodiums added to processed meats. BUT, sodium nitrate has no effect on me. The last year I have watched and not consumed any food with these additives and have had complete control over my gout. I love a good cold cut hogie and this past summer gave in twice. then in 12 hours, 5 days of gout. Also breakfest sauage eating out, 5 days gout. Fresh ground sausage ,no problem.
