I started taking these for the exact same reason (gallbladder removed about 5yrs. ago & I got terrible stomachaches...couldn't tolerate hardly any fat and refined sugar seemed to bother me).
Because of the above, I started cooking/baking w/molasses on a regular basis and noticed a big change. I have a couple of recipes that use regular molasses, but I don't know the concentration of blackstrap and how it would translate...you may have to do a little research beforehand...here goes:
Molasses coffee & cream:
1/2 c. VERY hot coffe
1 tsp molasses
1/8 c. light cream (substitutions of half & half, skim milk or 1% will work)
Blend & drink hot or pour over ice & top off glass with additional cream of choice.
Autumn Chiller:
1 1/3 c. molasses
2 tsp powdered ginger
2/3 c. vinegar
4 c. cold water
pinch of ground cinnamon
Mix together well and serve over ice, top with a sprinkle or pinch of ground cinnamon or add fresh cinnamon stick to glass.
Chilled no-egg nog:
4 ripe bananas
1 1/2 c. cold water
1/2 c. evaporated milk (may substitute half & half, skim milk or 1%, but you'll sacrifice richness)
1/4 tsp grated nutmeg
3-4 drops pure vanilla extract
1-2 tsp molasses
Liquify bananas with water in blend on high or a food processor. Add milk, grated nutmeg, vanilla extract and blend well (bananas add a frothiness/airiness to the drink). Stir in 1-2 tsp of molasses to taste. Drink as is or pour over ice for a colder refreshment. You can also make a smoothy with this drink by adding several cubes and blending until ice is chopped and mixed well. Tip: This drink does not taste good watered down, so if you serve over ice, you may want to use some mixture to make ice cubes with ahead of time so your drink does not get diluted when ice melts.
Energizer Juice:
1 lb. finely grated carrots
2 c. cold water
2 c. milk (any kind you prefer - can use soy or rice milk easily)
3 Tbsp condensed milk
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1-2 tsp molasses
Add water to grated carrots in a cheese clothe or very fine sieve. Squeeze water through 2-3 times to extract all juice from carrot pulp and into a large glass pitcher. Discard carrots when you can yield no more juice by pressing cheese cloth. Add water, milk, condensed milk and nutmeg & stir well. Stir in molasses to taste. Chill pitcher in refrigerator for at least 1/2 hour or serve over ice cubes.
You can substitute molasses almost all recipes, as I do with baking. Here are some conversions I've found work very well:
1 c. honey = 1 c. molasses
3/4 c. brown sugar = 1 c. molasses
3/4 c. white sugar = 1 c. molasses
I have a few really good cookie recipes using molasses in place of refined sugar & I use olive oil in place of butter/margarine/shortening, mostly due to d/s food allergies but also because my system can handle olive oil much better than other fats.
