Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Sorry I have so many questions but this is all new to me and I'm afraid to put anything into my mouth!
Here is what I'm taking currently:
Prilosec once in the morning
Zantac once in the morning and once at night
Sam-E 800 mg in the morning
B-Complex Vitamin after breakfast
Accuflora (probiotic) - once in morning, once at night (just started this)
Slippery Elm (as needed)
I just purchased adult gummy vitamins - is this OK to take with everything else (in addition to the B-Complex?) Is it OK on the stomach?
How about sugar-free chewing gum?
How about Luna protein bars? (I miss them so!)
I'm going to try organic creamy peanut butter tonight - let me know if this is a huge no no or if some tolerate it well.
Thanks,
Newbie :)

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Ravenfish - thanks for the advice about the gum, I've been having a lot of it lately and have been wondering if it could be adding to the problem...so I'll stop and see how I feel. I think I'll try some of the protein bar when I'm feeling a bit more brave. :)
See, I would have gone with the liquid vitamins thinking they would be better - guess not! I currently take B-complex, but it's powder inside a capsule. If I take iron, I'll be sure to crush it.
All welcome and much needed advice - thanks!
I've done Peanut Butter and Almond Butter and I don't think it agitated my gastritis too much. Sometimes I think it bugs my IBS, but it's just hard to tell. Still, given the calories/protein contained... it's a good item to have in your diet if you're working on keeping your weight up, which I am.
As for the protein bars, I agree with the "small sample" theory. I've been trying to work in a protein (whey) drink. Not sure how it's going. Going to keep working on it.
Oh, and I'm not sure about Zantac... most people here say it doesn't help much. But, one person from another board who was a real guru on gastritis claimed it was the best med for helping her heal. So, we're all wired up differently... but it doesn't seem like Zantac is usually a first option of docs/sufferers.
Take care!
