Greg , why do you want to water fast ? I don't think it's good for gastritis to have an empty stomach . You need to have something besides water . My stomach was always much worse when it was empty

I agree... why do a water fast? If you're going to fast at least go for something nutritious like a juice fast (even carrot juice is better than water). My stomach was also always worse when empty. Good luck!!!

Because I been eattinf fast food for a few weeks with ulcers, and I had too when I weighted only 80 some pounds...does anyone know how to water fast with carafate? I cannot even get down any VEGGIE liquids, NOTHING, or should I skip the carafate and just completely rest my stomach since i'm on a double dose of protonix?

I would definitely check with your GI doc on those questions, and ASAP. Perhaps you can call his/her office or speak to a nurse. I know from experience they're willing to answer questions (and at least most of them should be! If not, it's time for a different doctor/office)..

I agree with the other posters that it's good to have something in the stomach besides water; at least that's how it is with me.

Sometimes you have to almost demand answers if you have concerns that aren't being addressed. And we have to be our own advocates, telling the nurses or doctor that we have severe pain and need answers NOW--not later.

Have you looked into LOW acid rather than HIGH stomach acid? Symptoms are often the same... very confusing!

Its high because I have a glass of water now and acid shoots up my throat...

Oh Greg I'd be so careful about fasting. With gastritis we can't afford to be too full or too empty. Maybe fluids for a few days but at least some broth.
I agree a new doctor could be a good thing.

Hi Greg it reminds me when I was in hospital and they just put a jug of water infront of me. I was told to continue taking the meds. The eating bit I had to sort out myself. I opted for the poridge at breakfast time as it was all I could manage to eat. Otherwise when I was at home I would have liquid food which was called Complan over here in the UK. It was a struggle bit the liquid is more important than food. Its up to you if you fast but I don,t think that would make much difference. I know that it does keep coming up when its bad. Keep trying to take whatever liquids you can. You will guess the amount you can cope with as you go along. Also take some antacid besides Carafate but leave an hour or two. I know I need to take more of the Gaviscon I have.
