Just curious as to when those of you who have already had surgery already started your protein supplements. I just had my open gastric bypass on 11/20/07 and things in recovery are going well. Got home on 11/20, not hungry ever, which is a beautifully nice change and I'm just sorta following the routine my doctor told me to so I have the success he's known for (an article I read even said he had above average results which was nice and reassuring that I'd chose the right person for me). I was talking to someone else who had a lap band done and I know these are two different proceedures totally, so I figured I'd come here for advice from fellow bypass patients. My docotor's recommended diets seems to mimic the one in Barbara Thompon's book fairly closely. What I'm wondering is how soon you started off a Stage II diet, basically full liquids (I have jello, pudding, cream soups, popcycles, Crystal Lite, juice). If I remember right, on Thursday, when I see the PA who works with my surgeon, she'll instruct me on the progression of my diet to a puree/soft diet and go from there. But I wonder if I'm not feeling so run down and restless cuz I haven't started the vitamins or protein supplements at all. I dunno. Just pondering I guess. I just know I'm always tired and when I do sleep, it's for a half hour, maybe an hour at most, and I just want to move around when I'm awake mostly cuz I get sick of sitting yet my incision is healing so it's kinda sore so I don't always wanna move as much. I'm doing my best to work on it though. I just can't remember super clearly as to when they told me to move on to a protein supplement as I was so foggy from anesthesia while in the hopsital. I am still foggy and repeat myself a lot, etc. I doze off easily, phase out. It's just a weird feeling, but I've talked to many who've had anesthesia and they say this feeling is very typical after being put under. Anyhow, if anyone has any thoughts on this protein supplement issue I've got, I'd sure appreciate your two cents.
