Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
Don't nag her about what she's putting into her mouth. Never ask "Can you have that?" She'll learn on her own what she can eat and what she can't.
If possible, switch some of your eating habits to support hers... not portion size, but maybe switch from whole milk to skim or reg. sugar to a substitute (as examples only) to show that your supporting her. It will help with your grocery bill too.
My Fianc got very excited when our Doctor told him that he too would be losing weight and eating healthier after my surgery. He is only about 20 lbs overweight, however, hes been wanting to shed the extra pounds and begin eating better. They were pretty much on their own for the first 6 weeks after my operation, because my choices were very limited. Now that I can pretty much eat anything I am preparing meals that are better for us (more veggies, whole grains, low-fat, etc.).
I am not aware of support groups for spouses who have had GBS. My Fianc attended every pre-op Doctors appointment so he could learn what the surgery entails and what to expect afterward. This website is very informative and there are so many members that are willing to answer what ever questions you may have.
Best of luck to you.
