Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
My nutritionist had a talk with me about adding variety to what I was eating a couple of weeks ago and she was so right!
In my program we don't use any protein drinks or protein bars, so it all must come from food sources. I recently discovered a high protein cereal (for those past the soft foods stage) called Hi-Protein Crunch by Back to Nature - 15 grams protein in 1/2 cup and I can only eat 1/4 cup - my system tolerates it well.
I also discovered soy crisps (like tiny popcorn cakes but made with soy). I pile them high with smoked salmon, egg salad, tuna, deli meat, etc. and it's like I'm eating crackers. 4 to 5 crisps and I'm full!
As for the supplements, well, a relative of mine who had her sugery a couple of decades ago (and had a technique rarely used any more) decided she was tired of taking her supplements. They may have to reverse her sugery because she is now so malnourished.
Yes, this feeling will pass, but not the need for lots of protein and consistently taking supplements. Chin up - you can do it!
I am lossing my hair and it is thining out so much that I no longer even straigthen it I add conditioner to add volume. When I shower it comes out like I just add radiation treatment. Not to scare anyone but I have been told by friends this is all part of the process and it will slow and grow back. I hope soon! Take care Estelle
