I wrote an early post stating I was going back to work on Monday and forgot to include one of the biggest reasons it's stressing me out. I'm a teacher. I was originally all set to tell my students what type of surgery I had, they don't know yet, only that I'm out recovering from surgery. But that was when I had pipe dreams about how quickly the weight would come off. It's not coming off as quickly as I thought, and now I'm nervous about them making comments like, you're not losing enough or why aren't you losing more? If you were me, would you tell them?

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Tell everybody, and enjoy the accountability it enforces. The weight will come off!
Believe in the process and more than that, believe in you. Overeating and regain are all about secrets. No more hiding!

Just sayin LU
I wouldnt lie about it, i just wouldnt even comment on the matter. This is a medical deal between you and your dr, PERIOD!
It was actually kind of cute. I came back from surgery right before Christmas break, so a lot of kids were bringing in treats. Students would come to my room and offer me a sweet treat, and I would just say "no thanks". By the end of the day, when students would come to my room, my own students would be like, "Ms. Sullivan can't eat sweets right now." I hadn't told them that, but they picked up on it. Kids are smart. They'll know what you need without you needing to tell them everything.
My vote is no don't tell them, it might cause you more stress as students don't care what they say or how it comes out. At least my students. Just enjoy the compliments.
I too am a teacher(4th grade). I had my surgery on August 12th. My school started end of August. I chose not to tell the students or parents. I did however tell the staff and administration who were and have been very supportive throughout this journey. My students did know that I could not lift heavy objects and would help me out. The hugs too had to be off limits for a while. They have never asked why. I have lost over a hundred pounds and no child has made a comment. Parents do comment, but they are just gossip mongers and my polite response to them if they ask me if I am losing weight is "Yes, a little." By the way I work in a very wealthy private school and I just do not feel like getting into the conversation with them. I am not ashamed I just feel that their comments would be less than kind behind my back. When they ask what I am going I tell the truth. I exercise everyday and eat well. No lie. Good luck.
