I wanted to warn you all that if after gastric bypass you have any other reason to have surgery be aware that the hospital staff may be unaware of our special needs as GBS patients. This happened to me this week. I went back to the same hospital (18 months later) to have outpatient hernia surgery. I had complications (not related to GBS) and had to stay for six days. Of course after stomach surgery I was put on a liquid diet. It was on my record that I had GBS, but it took 2 days for me to convince the staff that I could not eat the high surgar items they tried to feed me. None of the nurses or the dietician seemed to be aware of GBS needs even though that type of surgery is done there weekly.
