Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
A friend in a different program was told she may be able to go home the same day for the same procedure. (I'm quite concerned about that, but I figure I'm not the doctor.)
I, too, am anxious to hear from others about their experiences.
NAL
The nasal gastric tube thingy came out on the Friday, as did the PCA, the catheter was removed on the Saturday, and the drain tube on the Sunday. I was still on a drip until Sunday morning (antibiotics and fluids) and having blood pressure etc checked every 2 hours.
Had my op in UK, so may be different here, but my surgeon won't let anyone leave until they can prove they can keep some soft pureed food (yoghurt, fruit etc) down and aren't feeling sick anymore.
I've gone into a lot of detail here, but figure you guys need to know what to expect. The hospital stay wasn't what I was expecting and was abit of an ordeal - for me at least.
Most of their patients go home on Thursday. Rarely, does anyone stay past Friday.
Since he didn't differentiate between the RNY and lapband (they do both), I assume they follow the same guidelines.
Surgery was Weds. morning, test for leaks was Thurs. morning. They removed the catheter Thurs. evening. Removed the drainage tube on Friday morning and went home that evening.
