Now don't go stressing over what you can't control! Most of us have pretty easy hospital stays...

diana, Mine was a piece of cake. I was only in the hospital for 1 day, a little over 24 hours. I was up and walking about 2 hours after I was returned to my room , and have had no complications. My only complaint has been really slow weight loss.... But I have to whine about something, right? ;)

thats good to know:)I am on another website too and i keep hearing these dreadful horror stories about hospital care,im gonna be in for 3-5 days cause i have to have it open and done a little different because of medical pblms,im hoping it goes smooth!

Although I have no experience with open RNY, I can tell you that I had an easy hospital stay. My team was great, I walked from recovery to my hospital room, pain meds were great and I was out the next day.

Remember, you are your best advocate while you're in the hospital. If you need something, ask for it. I was eating ice chips in recovery and getting proper pain management because I asked.

Good luck with your surgery. You will be in my thoughts and prayer for an easy surgery and speedy recovery.

I was in the hospital for 3 nights and 4 days. I hated it but felt safer that I was being medically monitored during that time. Everybody is different I come to find.

Do you have someone who would stay with you in the hospital during your stay? My surgeon and hospital allowed my husband to stay with me and he helped make sure everything was gong ok. My kids are in their 20s and we didn't have to worry about child care just pet care. I know it's not always possible to have someone with you. Maybe some family and friends could take turns being with you. It might ease your mind.

Advice: Every time you use the bathroom, take a lap around the surgery unit : ) Good luck

all i can say is dont forget your ownnnnnnnnnn pillowwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it makes a world of difference!. I used 9 lol! 2 under each arm 2 under head and my personal pillow lengthwise down my back and two under knees. boy was i comfortable. but if i didnt have them pillows oh i would have been misurable. i have to arrange them myself them when my bed got changed the awesome nurses i had rearranged them back so i would be comfortable again....!!! FYI the hospital pillows are hardly stuffed hence i needed 9!

My hospital stay was fine--I had surgery Wednesday afternoon and was out Friday morning. My girlfriend had it done Wednesday also and was out on a Friday.

These surgeons know their stuff--that's why they get paid the big bucks :)

Trust your doctor and you'll be fine!

One suggestion: Bring earplugs to the hospital. They're noisy and it's hard to sleep!

I had a great hospital stay. Had my surgery Monday am and was out Wednesday afternoon. I think it depends on the hospital, I have stayed at other hospitals that were terrible, but not the team at Toronto Western, they were great.

Also, remember that not all nurses are trained in gastric bypass follow-up.

They will sometimes bring food with sugar, will forget to dilute fruit juice, will hand you straws to drink with (a no-no), etc. You know more than they do--keep that in mind.
