I had my consult today. I think it was a big waste of time, he says I need to find insurance cause he doesn't want to do the surgery unless I have some sort of insurance so that if I had conplications I would have coverage. I feel like I have wasted my 250.00 and hoursof my time. I can do nothing but cry.

It all boils down to money!!! Who cares how much a persons quality of life and health will improve!!! I know it's a losing battle but I had to vent. Don't give up!!!! Check other surgeons. Try advising them in advance that you will be paying out-of-pocket this way if they have an issue with it, they can let you know before you waste your time and money. Keep trying it really is worth it.

yeah, he is hardlt the only surgeon out there. Too early to be feeling failure. Lots of people have to scratch and claw their way into a positive outcome. Even with insurance it is hard. Keep trying!!

I agree with both - plenty of other surgeons out there. Along with what TJMoot said, you can even ask about that when you call to make the appointment and save yourself time and money.

I had another thought - can you get insurance through your employer or a spouse or partner's employer in the near future? Many companies are having enrollment soon. Might be something to look into.

i WAS TOLD AT THE SEMINAR THAT I WAS A CASH PATIENT. hE COULD HAVE TOLD ME THEN AND I WOULDN'T HAVE WAITED 3 MONTHS FOR THE APT.

Don't give up!!!!!! I had a simular thing happen about five years ago. I put the surgery on the back burner. Then I put it back on the front burner. It took a year to get things lined up, but it did get done. Keep asking around, friends, friends of friends, etc. It will happen! Have faith in that.

At the support group I went to, I overheard someone say something about some insurance companies that provide insurance specifically for certain operations that you could purchase outside of a regular insurance plan. I don't know if it is true, but I have heard of similar things before- I'll see if I can find anything more about it..

I don't know where you live. In our community, the hospitals here offer up a single charge for self-pays that includes care for you should a complication arise.

Look into different programs. You are NOT alone in the self-pay department and that should NOT be used against you.

It's possible that the surgeon is looking out for you because he does NOT want you to be denied good care if you should have complications after surgery.

But, there are other alternatives.

Look for them, please!!
