Hi! I have not had surgery yet and am very nervous about that part. I was wondering what the deal is with the drain. What exactly are they, where do they go, how long do you have them. Tell me everything! Thanks.

Most people have 1 drain ill be honest they are kind of nasty and uncomfortable....but the good news is ya only have 1 for a week or some drs take them out before ya leave the hospital. After its out ya start to feel so much better...it seems really horrible but its really not that bad for the tool you receive....hope that helps....Lisa

I had mine taken out 6 days after surgery. It didnt bother me. I have worked with many people in my job (I am an occupational therapist) who have them, and it never bothered me. To see myown "stuff" (bloody fluid) coming out of me, bothered me. But it didnt last long. In the grand scheme of things, no big deal.

i hated the drain. it comes out of your left side where they do most of the work to your stomach. it is to drain fluid that can cause infections. i had mine in for 11 days. it was nasty and just in the way. when they took it out it felt like a red hot iron being pulled out of my body. i was so glad to have that thing out of my body. i know it did surve a purpose and for that i am grateful. i will say that it was worth it. i just hated it. after it was out i felt 100% better. dont worry, its just part of the whole thing. it will be over before you know it.

I had one too, came out on 4th day after op. They took it out because it stopped draining the day after the op and even when I was on fluids it still didn't drain anything (a good sign that there's no leaking in you). It is uncomfortable and you feel a lot better once it's out and it does sting on way out but take a big breath and think of something nice, it will make it easier!

Thanks everyone. I think it just scared me more! I should learn to just go with the flow some and not ask so many questions. Hahaha! I like knowing everything that I am getting into, but some things I am probably better off just just finding out when they happen. Once less thing to worrie about.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
