I just gave up pasta. About 2 months ago.
IMHO it is just filler in meals, it adds nothing but bulk, so I decided since I'm in this to cut back my food intake then this would be the easiest thing to eliminate.
Ya know what?? I don't even miss it!
When I eliminated pasta, I also cut out bread and potatoes and rice. I don't miss these either. If I feel I still need some thing after a meal of my veggies or meat, then I just get a second helping of either of these two. If I were going to push the healthy choice thing I would only have a second helping of veggies. I'm NOT a glutton for punishment! :)
I haven't tried rice because it expands in the stomach. Not saying that I won't down the road because I love rice.
Whole wheat bread is what I eat (very small quantities) and not often.
Hope this helps. Have a great day!
Has your surgeon and/or dietician said you're allowed to eat grains/bread/pasta/rice/potatoes? Most discourage you from eating these types of foods for the first year or so.
Remember... protein first, then veggies and fruits. By the time you finish with those, you won't have room for carbs. :)
Pam
Now, my mom makes her sauce about every 2 weeks, and I think that's what I crave the most. Last week I talked her into making meatballs with ground turkey. I ate 1/2 a meatball with her sauce and it was fine and satisfied my craving. :-)
You may want to look for other things to substitute for the pasta. You can make a vegi Lasagne and instead of the noodles you can layer with thinly sliced eggplant.
Whole grains are composed of three intact nutritious parts: the protected bran layer containing B-vitamins, antioxidants and fiber; the nutrient-packed germ containing high levels of B-vitamins, minerals, protein and healthy oils; the energy-rich endosperm containing mainly the starch, some protein, vitamins and minerals.
If a product dosen't say 100% whole grain it has been stripped of most of the nutrition and fiber. Products labeled "whole wheat" or "multi-grain" are trying to fool you into thinking that they are a healthy choice, but beware! If it doesn't say "100% whole grain" it's junk food.
