I talked to my surgeon's PA and she said if I can tolerate the calcium citrate chewables I've been taking (the texture makes me gaggy) that she'd prefer I get some form of calcium rather then none, so she recommended any form and I asked her if Viactive chews were okay and she said that'd be fine, to take 3 a day. What I'm wondering, though, is from all the reading up on calcium absorbtion I've done, that with calcium citrate, you have to take it alone for it to absorb best. Is that the same with all calcium across the board? The Viactive container says to take them with meals, so I wasn't sure what to do and didn't want to take it with food if the iron from any food I eat will inhibit the absorbtion or if calcium carbonate absorbs differently and the food helps it absorb a bit better. I don't know much about calcium carbonate absorbtion and just wanted to make sure I do it right so that I get what bit of calcium from them that I can absorb rather then nothing cuz I can't take the citrate right now. She said to try the citrate chewables in a month again to see how it goes, but in the mean time to get any form of calcium I can, so I'm doing the Viactive chews for now to get a form in since that's what they recommended trying. Any advice on how to take it to get the best absorbtion?
