I do believe that carbohydrate
addiction/sugar is the same as alcoholism. I had a Dr
tell me many years ago(when I was 23 or so) that he
thought that for some of us carbohydrates cause the
same physical response as alcohol. That is why we
have the "hair of the dog" feel better response to
some foods. I have alcoholics on both sides of my
family tree.
refined carbohydrates are processed as sugar
sugar is metabolized as alcohol in our bodies
When my husband was getting of of alcohol (28 yrs ago
and never a drink since then) and they couldn't get
him space in a treatment center they had me feed him
sugar foods to help prevent dangerous physical
withdrawal.
When my daughter went into treatment they were not
allowed any sugars of any type for six months. (more
than six years ago and no relapse) I think for some of
us refined carbohydrates/ sugars are our drug of
choice. I think that is why some of us can't just
have one bite just like alcoholics cannot just have
one drink, we have more feel good response receptors
to certain foods than others do. (like one of my
daughters would have some of her Easter chocolate
left when Christmas was approaching my other daughter
and of course I would not have any left a couple of
days past Easter)

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
It was interesting to me because I dodged the alcoholism bullet, It runs pretty strong in my family. I didn't miss the carb addiction bullet though.
I do know how The Carb monster feels when it has a hold on me. That intense, insane, clawing to get anything that will fill the urge, to just fill my face.
Then comes the crash afterwards. I think I can buy into this line of thinking.

Just wanted to say that when I became a diabetic my carbs and sugars were cut drastically for the first time in my life. I felt seriously deprived and began craving things like bread and cereal, things I never liked. There just may be something to that theory.
