I am having surgery in 5 days and I am overwhelmed. I think I am ok with understanding the protein and drinking part, but I was using carnation instant breakfast that my surgeon suggest for my liquid diet and was too sluggish. She says I need to boost my protein and gave me a bunch of sites to check out. I am hoping maybe you can tell me what flavors you like so I can narrow it down more quickly. I tend to favor sweet stuff if that helps. I have been on liquids since 11/17 so willpower is pretty strong by now. I am also really confused with the vitamins and supplements of which ones you can and cannot take together. Does anyone have an easy explanation on these? I live in a small town so sometimes it is hard to get some stuff so I am trying to order stuff ahead of time and am running out of time! Help please!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
It has to do with the actual cutting of the vegus nerve during the surgery. This is a long drawn out thing to explain and i will if you message me, but many here don't want that much info!
Suffice it to say, things that taste good before surgery, may not taste good after surgery. Sometimes this is temporary and sometimes it's permanent.
More to come...
Vitamins and scheduling. If your Doc didn't give you a suggestion for a good multivitamin then pick a Bariatric one like bbvitamins.com. These are what my surgeon recommends. There are others like Bariatric advantage.
Some people just use flintstone's chewables, or a prenatal that you can now get OTC. I won't recommend these as they weren't formulized for us bariatric patients. There are many forms of vitamins that cannot be absorbed after surgery like Calcium Carbonate and Ferrous Sulfate (Iron). So non Bariatric vitamins are just asking for trouble. I have studies on this also if you message me I will get them to you!
Take Iron and vitamin C alone. Do not take it within 2 hours of Calcium Citrate. Why? Because Both the calcium and the Iron (carbonyl) require stomach acid for absorbtion. after surgery you will barely have enough acid to digest one of these at a time.
No water with food
Do not do protein supplement with fiber supplement. Why? Because the protein binds to the fiber and will be flushed unused from your system.
Off the top of my head these are the main things to remember, I'm sure there are others, but they'll be here in a minute!
God Bless!

When it comes to ordering supplements online, a lot of people go to bariatriceating.com or vitalady.com -- but don't be afraid to price shop at amazon.com -- sometimes you can get a better deal-- but sometimes you can't!
