MY FIRST CONSULT IS ON FEB 3RD I AM SO EXCITED MOST OF THE NERVOUSNESS IS GONE!!! MY BIGGEST CONCERN NOW IS EVERYONE I KNOW AND FROM THING I'VE READ UP HERE HAS SAID SOMETHING ABOUT A DIET WHILE YOU ARE AWAITING YOUR SURGERY DATE. WHAT IS THAT ABOUT? IS IT JUST TO SEE IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT LOSING WEIGHT OR IS IT JUST SO YOU WONT GET ANY BIGGER BEFORE THE SURGERY? ANYWAY I HAD THIS FRIEND TELL ME I SHOULD EAT ALL THE JUNK I WANT TO NOW AND GET IT OUT OF MY SYSTEM BEFORE I GO IN FOR THE CONSULT. THE THING IS I HAVE COMPLETELY CHANGED MY LIFESTYLE AND EATING HABITS AND I DONT REALLY EAT JUNK ANYMORE I MAY HAVE A LIL SLIP EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE BUT FOR THE MOST PART I DOING GOOD. WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST EAT WHAT I KNOW I WONT BE ABLE TO OR JUST KEEP IT LIKE I GOT IT? AND DOES EVERYBODY HAVE TO DO THE DIET OR IS IT JUST FOR CERTAIN PEOPLE?

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
The preop diet (most surgeons have this) is to shrink your liver. The liver sits on top of the stomach. If it is fatty and stiff, it can be a problem or add risk to the procedure. The pre-op diet is meant to shrink the liver and make it a bit more flexible so that the surgeon has an easier time and there is less risk to your surgery. For my surgery, it was a 14 day liquid protein diet. The first 3-4 days were rough, but after that, wasn't a problem.
Just keep your new good habits and follow the guidelines that your surgeon gives you, and you'll be fine.
Oh, and congratulations on your commitment.
BTW: would you mind please changing from the all caps format? It's really hard to read...
My insurance company requires it but did not tell me what the expectations are. I have 2 months left of my 6 month low card diet. I have lost 2 pounds. One of my co-workers told me to make sure I didnt gain any weight in the 6 months or lose too much. If I do that, the insurance company may think I can do without the surgery. She gained 4 pounds and the insurance company denied her procedure. She has to wait 3 months and can apply again.
I have started changing some of my eating and drinking habits. I only drink decaf coffee and tea (my hardest habit to break) and have cut down a lot on carbonated drinks. I only eat fried food (wind dings, my other habit) once a week. I have started eating 5 small meals a day and taking my lunch to work. Fast food is almost nonexistent. And I have started to incorporate exercise into my day more regularly. I take my vitamin D, multi-vitamin, and calcium daily. I am on the right road to post-op preparedness. I hope to have a date in March.
Good Luck, It won't always be easy but you will get through it.
Dianne :)
I had no pre-loss plan, just could not gain. Did have the classes. Stay on your lifechange eating habits(notice I did not say diet) this road is not a diet, its changing the way you even think about food...forever. Its always about making choices everyday. What is right for your body, health, weight and mind.
oh, and try to move from the soda...even diet soda. There are so many other healthy choices out there. Good luck, Joyce
