Food Addiction Support Group
An individual suffering from a food addiction disorder frequently experiences episodes of uncontrolled eating, or binging, during which they may feel frenzied or out of control. They will eat much more quickly than is normal, and continue to eat even past the point of being uncomfortably full. Binging in this way is generally followed by a period of intense guilt feelings...
It is my choice to take or NOT take that firt bite. I don't need an excuse like Halloween to binge. I have opted to stay out of places like drug stores until the Boo-fest passes and the after Boo-fest sales are over...
I know that one bite is too much and one million bites are never enough!!!
We have a dis-ease why twist the dogs-tale when your hand in in his mouth..
Just my thoughts thanks for letting me share...
Peace,
Nicol
it is commonly accepted that self-esteem is a huge issue for those of us addicted to food. which means a lot of us react strongly to real or perceived criticism. we've just had toooooooo darn much of it in our lives. even constuctive criticism can trigger old hurts.
and .... where we are in our recovery probably really impacts what kind of support we are looking for and how much 'truth' we can handle / how much responsibility we take for our actions.
recovering from food addiction is such a process, and in this group we have people in every possible stage of that process - it took me a lot of time to go from recognizing that i had a real problem to completely understanding that there is no one or nothing responsible for my addiction or my recovery except me.
On the one hand, Beiceth - ya gotta realize - and I know you know that for everyone it isn't that easy. Some folks are moms of younger kids, or there are parties leading up to Halloween, or you just plain absolutely get upset. (Not making excuses - but when I told told my insurance wouldn't pay for $400 worth of meds I needed, I headed for chocolate and sugar. Just like when you were in the height of your anorexia, and were stressed - you may have turned to NOT eating.)
On the other hand, yes, people need to be responsible for themselves. And they tend to have a hard time hearing that. Hard truths are just that, hard.
