On Feb. 21, for the first time in years, everything in my name and the only name on the contract,I purchased a used car. I am 49 years old. I made a deal and signed all contract at the dealership. On Feb. 23, my husband took the car and had it serviced, the dealer did the work as promised, but at the same time told my husband that the first deal, that was in my name only did not go through and they sent him home with another contract, asking for more of a down payment. After much emotional distress and blaming myself for not reading every line of the contract; and getting advice from many friends I called the dealership and told them I was not signing the second contract (which by the way, was asking for an additional $1000 in downpayment). I immediately stopped payment on my deposit check because I felt this was fishy. The second contract was sent home with my husband, his name is not on the contract, and not until he told me did I find out of the change, the dealership never notified me. Now the dealership calls me back, says they are sending me a third contract and are reducing the cost of the maintainece package I purchased to "make things right". I received the contract but was not able to look it over immediately. After 10 days passed I emailed the sales manager at the dealersip (this was this past Wednesday) and told him I would be in on Saturday (today) to sign the paperwork and give them a deposit. He agreed, and reminded me to bring in a check since he had been notified that I had stopped payment on the first check. To my suprise, on Friday (yesterday) the salesman (not the sales manager) but the salesman who sold me the car called me. Now he tells me that the company has accepted contract number 1, and I need to give him my debit card number over the phone. He told me that even though the contract number 1 states I made aa $1500 deposit, I am only being charged $1150, because the dealership in our original deal promised to pay my disposition fee on the lease I was turning in (same car company) if I purchased a car with them. I also find that the parent company did not check my credit until Monday, March 2. This entire experience has been a total nightmare, and if there is anyone out there that is familiar with what if anything I can do your thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated.
