I have numbness, tingling and pain in both of my arms and hands. I've had it for a few years. I had carpel tunnel surgery years ago but when the symptoms started, they retested me. Nerve conduction test were all negative so the pain numbness and tingling couldn't be attributed to carpal tunnel.
Recently, they did a CT scan of my neck and found that it was normal. That's the only thing they said could explain the bilateral numbness and tingling in my arms and hands ( I don't have it in my legs and not diabetic so peripheral neuropathy was ruled out)
I have all of the typical symptoms of fibromyalgia except for this issue with numbness in my arms and hands.
A couple years ago I had low back pain that led to low back surgery. Since then, I've had 3 rounds of PT. My back overall is doing pretty well. I still struggle with spasms but it's gotten a lot stronger.
But the pain in my upper body got worse. I started having pain in my neck and shoulders and upper back. But the numbness is only in my hands and my arms. It gets worse with activity and better with rest but it doesn't take much activity to get it worse again. I feel the numbness all the time to some degree.
Originally my physical therapist and doctors thought this pain in my upper body could be attributed to atrophy and deconditioning.
Within the last couple of months, the pain of fibromyalgia has gone from my upper body to my entire body. It progressed in a very short amount of time. I still have the problem with numbness, tingling, and pain in my arms and in my hands. The numbness is nowhere else in my body.
The issue with my arms and hands has made every day functioning very difficult at times. That was before the widespread pain kicked in. Now it feels impossible at times.
I'm trying to figure out if the issue with my hands and arms was my first symptom of fibromyalgia but I just didn't know it at the time. If it isn't part of fibromyalgia, then they have no answers for me about my arms and hands.
I'm following up with the rheumatologist next week to talk about medication options for fibromyalgia and I start aqua therapy in mid January. I'm going to ask him specifically about this as well but if he doesn't attributed it to fibromyalgia, then he's just going to have more non-answers for me.
Edit: I had an MRI on my head and neck, not a CT scan. I got the two mixed up.
