I am burned out by the ads on TV here in the US for prescription medications.
My understanding is that it is only in the US and New Zealand that this is allowed. Other countries would seem to have reason rule, in my humble opinion.
I'd love to see it end and would love to know if others are similarly bothered by the overexposure to negative (worrying) media such as these ads, where they calmly list out every possible side effect, including sudden death. I'm similarily bothered by the ads for surgery that appear from both local hospitals and from the corporations holding the patents on medical devices such as hip replacement parts.
I find these all to be needlessly stressful and vastly intrusive/invasive. I don't know if I need any of these medicaitons, and I'd rather not sit around, having been handed inadequate information with which to try to judge that, lacking as I am, a medical education. I get just enough information to put more junk in my head and I neither want nor need it. I'm informed, but that's NOT the same as having a formal medical education and practical day-to-day experience.
I would love to see these ads banned. xxx

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Anyways, those are just my foggy opinions. I've been getting irritated lately with all the commercials for ED drugs, and the incredibly stupid BCP ads. How many women text each other, talking about their birth control & all the disclaimers that go with it?? LOL
1. Please, overwhelm me with MORE information that I cannot possibly assimilate and scare the hell out of me with EVERY adverse side effect that could POSSIBLY happen (Too Much Information!!!), in a time where fear and negativity seem to be a mainstays in our media.
2. The information is coming from pharmaceutical companies and is WAY too much like the fox guarding the henhouse.
Agree on not wanting to hear EVERY possibility and I have the sense that so much bad stuff is being spread (scares, or just focusing us on all the rotten potentialities of life, that is does us more harm than good).
Why do only two countries in the world allow this? It was once illegal to advertise like this.
But I must admit it's a double edged sword...
First Side:
I think the drug companies and their PR reps only want to convince us of our need for them so they'll profit by them. And I hate that they've turned a good many Drs into drug pimps for their products! And some Drs don't bother to get all the necessary info they & WE need in order to make the right decison.
Second Side:
We should have access to the knowledge we need about drugs that exist currently as well as ones that are up & coming. I think this is where we should rely more heavily on pharmacists. It's their job to know all about the drugs we're prescribed and as such we shouldn't hesitate to consult with them.
