Good morning! (finally) Of coures, I start late b/c I didn't fall asleep till something like 4 AM. Ugh. PTSD stuff. Ick.
Anyway, before we all get excited, I do have one task for everyone today. (Cookies, too!)
Find a quiet spot, maybe some nice ambient background noise like a waterfall or breeze in leaves, and just *breathe*. In 2 3 4, hold 2 3 4, out 2 3 4, hold 2 3 4... and In 2 3 4.... Repeat about 10 times. This has two effects. One, calms your mind. Two, it actually affects your physiology to stabilize your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems and all that, so your BP and heart and breathing lapse into a "good" place automatically. :-) Figured we can all use some time just... breathing and being still.
Today in 1955, the Tennessee Williams play "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" opened. In my house, that's "Cat on a nice warm lap". The play is actually best know for the film version, in which Liz Taylor played "Maggie, the cat".
In 1944, a bomb killed 32 German policemen in Rome. In response, the Gestapo killed over 300 Italians. B/c, y'know. THat made sense.
In 1999, (what's with my double digits here) a truck traveling through the Mont Blanc tunnel, which links Italy and France and goes under the Alps, burst into flame. It was carrying flour and margarine. Mkae jokes about baking if you like, but alas, at least 30 people died and many more were injured. (Also, never understimate the power of grain dust to combust. The stuff's crazy.)
Random fact: Vinegar, derived from the French for "vin aigre" (soured wine), was first discovered about 10,000 years ago.... which tells you when wine was also discovered, more or less.
A highly acidic white vinegar, btw, acts as a very good weedkiller on sidewalks. Also home cleaning (good on residual ickies especially).
And on that note... Let's go onward with our Tuesday tasks, hands held in thought, and heads high, okay? And let yourelf go hide for that 10 minutes you need. No harm in it. Sanity lies in the small things osmetimes.
Hugs, purrs, and support!
Good morning from the Cranky Cat! Oh, I woke up on the wrong side of every bed ever. Just... tha tkind of morning after too long since decent sleep and solid food. (Back t solid food now, yay!) Anyway, not aided by coming downstairs to discover a certain spouse of mine (and I only have one, mind you) left the counter covered in dirty dishes b/c ---- it's not his job to put away clean ones, and as...
Good morning! Day! Or whatever it is!OK, if you get a FWD e-mail claiming it's info from Johns Hopkins? It ain't. ANd it isn't entirely accurate. It's accurate in a glossy suits-the-headline way, but... well, if the e-mail says HEAT will melt th efat off the virus? Heat kills anything. It's called cooking. And it goes downhill from there, IMO. So... just be aware, actual...
