Hello! from meow-mrr-chrrrrrrr-meeewwowow! Yep, another cat has begun showing up regularly. A chatterbox. Hubby of course promptly stepped on that cat trying to avoid another cat, and then a third cat turned into a brick wall around our shins, and there we were.
Welcome to my life. Oh, and the newly resident snake says hi, too. *bangs head against brick* Which makes NO sense b/c the skinks are here, too, and the snake should've eaten 'em, so I give up. My yard is like Casablanca for critters.
Meawhile, no joke, a friend e-mailed to remidn me she is leaving me her pets in her will. Thanks, is she sick? No, just reminding me. No worries. Wasn't gonna forget that. it's the only tiem anyone left me anything in a will!
If you dig lava, watch Youtube ----- the Icelandic volcano is currently quiet but GutnTog (I think that's the channel) has some great footage of it roaring and doing what was predicted and now came to pass. The cinder cone that was the "main" blew apart and you can now see the lava explosions from Reykjyavik, Iceland, some 20 kilomters away ---- about 12 miles, give or take. The youtuber I mention has a vid from Saturday where tiny bits of lava "glass" rain down around him. Time to move to a safer hill!
So what is my interest?
Essentially, I'm a nerd. The plate tectonics of the earth mean we're constantly creating and eating crust, to be simplistic. Subudction (think Inodnesia and the Cascades of western North America) "eats" ocean crust that's pulled/pushed under the continent. At the mid-ocean ridges, the cracking open means lava comes up and forms more!
Iceland, by dumb luck, sits astride TWO continental plate masses ---- and tehy're opening up (diverging, to be nerdy). North America and Eurasia, to be precise.
And, for whatever reason, no one is sure, but kinda like a hot spot, only not ----- the fissure in the earth pops to the surface and there we have it! Iceland! .... Ironically, a highly volcanic (lava!) island. In the style of Kilauea, Hawaii, to be precise. Flow, sputter, WHOA! and repeat.
So you can go to Iceland, and hop a line, and move, technically, from the Eurasian continental plate underfoot to the North American. Woot! :-)
Of cousre, subduction zones, as off the coast of western North America, a bit less exciting, and a bit more explosive (think Mount St. Helens 1980, Krakaoa in 1883... yeah, you get it).
Why my fascination? B/c I'm a nerd. No idea otherwise. I just get fascinated by anything and everything. How does it work? Why? And geology has a lott of chemistry, and biology is basically chemistry, and thereit is.
HUGS to all. :-)
Wow, I am doing... well, rotten, really, LOL.Weather change. Stress. PTSD stuff. I am terrified to see Mom this Sunday for Mothers Day. I just don't want to see her. I don't want to see that she needs rescue, and have to walk away from it. I don't want to see her treat us badly for doing better by her than she did by *her* mother. And now our next-door is bitching at Hubby about somethign we do,...
